Person Centred Planning (PCP) was first developed in the United States in the 1980s and is now well established in the UK. PCP involves putting the individual at the centre of the planning process. Planning with the person, not for them.
A key feature of PCP is that it builds on the values of inclusion and looks at what support a person needs to be included and involved in their community. You can read more about the origins of PCP in O’Brien, C.L. and J. O’Brien, The Origins of Person-Centered Planning: A Community of Practice Perspective (PDF 192KB).
