Chair of Ambitious College Governing Body and Trustee

We’re looking for a trustee to help take Ambitious about Autism through the next crucial phase of development and to Chair the new Ambitious College Governing Body.

Strong experience at leadership level, and of ensuring excellent governance, will be essential for this appointment. A strategic thinker with excellent relationship-building, communication and interpersonal skills, you are likely to be someone who has already achieved real standing in your field and be able to offer established networks. You will also have an important ambassadorial role to play. To do this, an appreciation of the issues that relate to our work would be useful. We are specifically seeking an individual with experience in further education, supported employment or adult services for people with learning disabilities. We also welcome applicants with lived experience of autism.

TreeHouse School Governors

TreeHouse School is an outstanding non-maintained special school for children and young people with autism aged 4 to 19 years based in the Pears National Centre for Autism Education in North London.

We are now looking for Governors to help take TreeHouse School through its next crucial phase of development. Specifically, we are recruiting a Community Governor, a Sponsor Governor and a Local Authority Governor. Governors play a crucial role in helping to shape the strategic direction of the school, to evaluate the school’s performance, support and challenge the senior team and act as visible ambassadors for the school.

Ambitious College will open in September 2014 to offer young adults with autism the specialist education and support they need to transition successfully to an active life as part of their community.

As a Learning and Behaviour Specialist you will support learners to achieve outstanding outcomes. You will work alongside Ambitious College’s multi-disciplinary team and directly support the implementation of each learner’s individualised study programme. You will support learners to meet their targets whilst collating evidence of their learning. You will work within the Ambitious College campus as well as in the community and at other external college venues as required.

Judged ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted (October 2012) we offer each pupil a personalised curriculum that includes the National Curriculum delivered by a multi-professional team using teaching approaches underpinned by the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis.

Working within our multi-professional teams, you will teach group and some individual lessons for our students, support staff across the school to give our pupils opportunities to access music, supervise our Performing Arts specialist tutor and other visiting professionals as required and lead on further developing our music curriculum.
