I have worked at Ambitious about Autism since 2010, starting as a temp when I moved to London and then going through an interview process to become a permanent member of staff. This is the first time I have worked for a charity – I have worked in local and central government, as well as a privately owned company and a larger financial services FTSE company so I am enjoying working in a totally different environment.
My role is to support the Director of Resources in her role as well as her teams, so my role is busy and varied. The Director of Resources covers Finance, ICT, Facilities and the People team which includes HR. I undertake all the usual Executive Assistant duties you would expect; diary management, typing reports, taking minutes, dealing with the telephone and emails but there are many things which come across my desk on a daily basis which keeps this role interesting and challenging.
One minute I can be trying to track down a government produced report or researching information to be incorporated into one of our staff policies and the next I can be checking that the information on Companies House is correct or liaising with the Office for National Statistics with salary data.
I am also secretary to the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), our staff and management forum. I find this forum really interesting and worthwhile as it allows staff to raise issues and ideas with management. I book all meetings, take the minutes and oversee staff elections for new members.
Although I have only been here just over two years, we have had some major changes – not least our rebranding and name change to Ambitious about Autism. Working here is very rewarding and great fun – I feel a part of the school as I have a first hand view of our pupils arriving, working and playing and the two areas I work for help to keep the organisation running and achieving our goals.
