PPP e-seminars

Our Parent Participation Project team organise regular e-seminars. These online seminars cover various topics related to parent participation. They provide an opportunity for parents, carers and professionals to listen to expert speakers with different perspectives on participation. You can also take part in an interactive discussion with the speakers in real time.

Visit our Facebook page to 'like' the e-seminars and keep up to date with what’s coming up!

Frequently asked questions

What is an e-seminar?

An e-seminar is a seminar that takes place online. It works a bit like a chat room but instead of everyone chatting all at once, people type their questions and the speakers respond to them one at a time for everyone to see.

You can see what this looks like by taking a look at a past live Q&A with Karen Wooddissee and Anne Myatt (scroll to be bottom of the page).

If English is not your first language and you have difficulties understanding it, you can still take part. There is a translation option, which translates the content live into a number of different languages. You just need to click on the Speech bubble button button.

How to participate in an e-seminar

Before the day

  1. Block out the time in your diary to take part.
  2. If possible view the online video presentations before the e-seminar takes place. These will be available 24 hours before the event. This will help you think of questions in advance and get the most out of the live time with the speakers
  3. Familiarise yourself with the rules, which are designed to make e-seminars a pleasant and professional experience.  Most of them are common sense, but please read through the rules so you can bear them in mind when taking part:
  • At all times, be respectful of other users.
  • Keep your contributions ‘on topic’ and relevant to the discussion at hand.
  • Do not swear or use offensive language or type in CAPITAL LETTERS to make a point.
  • Do not give out personal information, such as addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other online contact details during e-seminars.
  • Tell the truth and be as accurate as possible, backing up your argument or view with evidence where possible.
  • Don’t use the e-seminar to promote any product, service or publication.

On the day itself

  1. Remember to have your computer volume settings turned up to a reasonable level and ensure that it’s not muted. Plug in your headphones if you think your speakers are not loud enough or you don’t want to disturb others.
  2. During the e-seminar you will be able to ask questions and submit them. To do this you will need to type your name and question into the text box that appears when the event starts. Once you enter your question and send it you won't be able to see it again until the speaker selects it.  This keeps our e-seminar events tidy and less confusing for everyone involved. You can be anonymous if you like and don’t have to register to join in.
  3. Enjoy yourself and make sure to ask questions.
  4. Afterwards please complete the feedback poll. Your input is vital to the success of future e-seminars.

What if I can't attend an e-seminar but I want to ask a question?

If you can't attend an e-seminar live, please email aholmes@ambitiousaboutautism.org.uk to post your questions in advance so we can ask them on your behalf. You can then view a transcript of the event afterwards.

To view the e-seminar after it takes place, you can come back to the event page and click to ‘replay’ the event.

There will usually be a lot of questions for the speakers to answer in the allocated time, so they probably won’t be able to answer all of them.  But we always do our best to get as many of your questions answered as possible.
