Autism Education Trust and Department for Educatiion logosAmbitious about Autism is the designated training hub for schools in London for a programme of face-to-face training, developed by the Autism Education Trust (AET) with support from the Department for Education. The training is aimed at practitioners working in mainstream or special schools, as well as those working in specialist settings for children from the ages of 5–16 years.

Autism Education Trust training can be delivered in your school on a date and at a time that is convenient for you or you can book to attend a course at our training venue in Muswell Hill, north London.

The training programme is split in to three levels:

Level 1 — For all staff who need an understanding of autism

A 90-minute basic autism awareness training course suitable for teaching and non-teaching staff who need an understanding of autism in their role including office staff, governors, caretakers, lunchtime supervisors, drivers and escorts. This course is ideal for INSET days or as a twilight session at the end of the school day.

£125 per day if delivered at your school for a group of staff (no maximum number).

£30 per person if you attend a course at our training venue in Muswell Hill, north London:

  • 2 October 2013, 4–6pm
  • 2 December 2013, 5–7pm
  • 22 January 2014, 4–6pm
  • 11 March 2014, 5–7pm
  • 15 May 2014, 5–7pm
  • 8 July 2014, 4–6pm

Level 2 — For staff who work regularly with pupils with autism

Delivered by an autism education specialist, this is a one day training course for all staff that directly support the teaching and learning of a child with autism. The course looks more specifically at classroom-based strategies and is suitable for teachers and teaching assistants. 

£650 per day if delivered at your school for a group of staff (up to 30 people).

£95 per person if you attend a course at our training venue in Muswell Hill, north London:

  • 29 November 2013, 9.30am–3.30pm
  • 27 February 2014, 10am–4pm
  • 25 April 2014, 9.30am–3.30pm

Level 3 — For staff who need further knowledge about autism and/or may train or lead other staff in their setting

This two day training course is aimed at Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators, school leaders,and managers who are involved in supporting children with autism and those who may train or lead other staff in their setting. Entry to Level 3 is only available to those that have successfully completed the Level 2 course.

£650 per day if delivered at your school for a group of staff (up to 30 people).

£190 per person if you attend a course at our training venue in Muswell Hill, north London:

  • 30 & 31 January 2014,10am–4pm
  • 27 & 28 March 2014, 10am–4pm
  • 23 & 24 June 2014, 10am–4pm

About the training

The AET Hubs Training programme has been developed by the Autism Centre for Education and Research (ACER) at the University of Birmingham in collaboration with Oxfordshire Local Authority. They are designed for use across all types of setting and ability, covering mainstream, special and specialist settings and for children from the ages of 5 to 16 years. All the materials have been developed in consultation with school staff, individuals on the autism spectrum, parents and carers.
