Developing an appropriate curriculum for children and young people with severe autism

Thursday 15 March 2012

Determining what is an inclusive, broadly based and balanced curriculum, which includes the National Curriculum, for a child or young person with severe autism and complex needs, can be challenging. This course aims to support ABA Professionals, SENCOs, Teachers, Curriculum Managers and Higher Level Teaching Assistants and others with responsibility for curriculum development.

This course draws on the experience of the School Leadership Team at TreeHouse School and their learnings from developing the curriculum. Between them, the leadership team has many years’ experience in mainstream, special schools, residential homes, respite services, in adult services and on ABA home programmes. This course will be led by a member of the School Leadership Team.

Learning objectives:

  • Planning, teaching and assessing the curriculum for pupils with severe autism and complex needs
  • Determining curriculum entitlements and priorities for learning (in a school setting)
