Ambitious about Autism Parent Patrons Sally and Speaker John Bercow MP gave their first joint television interview about autism on ITV1’s Lorraine programme on Monday 16 July 2012.
The couple told presenter Lorraine Kelly about what family life is like raising a child with autism as their son Oliver, aged eight, has high-functioning autism. They also discussed why they support Ambitious about Autism and the £100,000 donation to the charity Sally achieved by appearing in Celebrity Big Brother 2011.
Speaker John Bercow MP told Lorraine Kelly: “I have always accepted that she was a free agent and that she was entitled to do it if she wanted to do so. And did she do well on the programme [Celebrity Big Brother]? She did. And did she raise a fortune? She did. And did she do so for a magnificent charity, Ambitious about Autism? She did. And I'm very proud of her for that."
Mark Atkinson, Director of Communications, Policy and Research, said: “Sally and Speaker John Bercow MP are excellent Parent Patrons for Ambitious about Autism, their passion and enthusiasm for raising autism awareness is inspiring and we are proud to have their support.”
