The Parent Participation Project (PPP)
The Parent Participation Project (PPP) was a government-funded project, co-ordinated by Ambitious about Autism. From 2008-2011 it brought parents, carers and local authority professionals together to improve the lives of children and young people with disabilities.
What were the aims of the project?
The PPP aimed to ensure that:
- all parents and carers get the opportunity to have their opinions represented, whatever their gender and background, and wherever they live
- there is an inclusive, well-managed and well-attended parent and carer forum in each designated local authority area
- professionals and parents work confidently together to commission services for children and young people with disabilities
- mechanisms are put in place allowing information exchange between local authority professionals and parents and carers, aiding effective decision-making
- the wider community of parents and carers is made aware of feedback from decision-making bodies, so everyone can learn from each other’s experiences.
