Preparing autistic young people for employment with Marsh McLennan

In October 2025, Marsh McLennan partnered with Ambitious about Autism to host an Insight Day for a group of 16 autistic young people at its London head office.

As part of Marsh McLennan’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, the day created an opportunity for autistic young people to see what a workplace is like and to gain real insight into a career in the insurance industry.  

Working together, we created a valuable and accessible experience, breaking down some of the most common barriers to employment that autistic people face.  

Helping participants prepare for the day

Ahead of the Insight Day, attendees received a comprehensive “what to expect” pack including the agenda, travel guidance, staff bios, dress code, and photos of the venue. This helped participants prepare for the day and ease nerves around uncertainty.  

The day itself was inclusive, informative and full of activities that helped participants learn more about the workplace and gain practical skills that will support them in their journey to employment.  

The day included:

  • an overview of different business areas within Marsh McLennan exercise exploring what employers are looking for in applications and how to present unique talents and experiences
  • a risk focussed game activity to give attendees an idea of some of the considerations needed in some roles
  • a guided tour of the offices
  • an opportunity to hear about the social impact work Marsh McLennan are committed to  
  • a mock assessment centre, to better understand what happens at an assessment centre interview and what the expectations are.

We worked hard to ensure everyone could fully engage in the day in the way that worked best for them. Tools included a traffic light communication system, providing multiple ways to ask questions, ensuring quiet spaces were available, and personalising reasonable adjustments.

An Autism Confident employer

The Insight Day demonstrated Marsh McLennan’s ongoing commitment as an ‘Autism Confident’ employer and feedback from participants reflects this. Participants left feeling confident they would be successful applying for opportunities in the future and are likely to apply for roles within Marsh McLennan or across the insurance sector.

With only 30% of autistic people in work we look forward to hosting many more Insight Days in support of improving autistic young people’s access to fulfilling and rewarding careers.
