We are aspirational and ambitious for our learners and believe that many of them, with the right support, can access a mainstream setting. For this reason we have co-located our campuses within mainstream further education colleges. This enables us to extend our curriculum significantly. It enables young people to access learning, social, employment and leisure opportunities alongside their mainstream peers, whilst receiving the specialist support they need.
Our curriculum is framed around the four themes in the Preparing for Adulthood agenda: Employment, Independent Living, Better Health, and Friends, Relationships and Community.
"Learners are taught to be proud of who they are and what they have achieved and to socialise with their peers, even if it does not always happen as planned. Our community access programmes like swimming, spin class and going to the gym support our learners to be fit physically." Staff Member
Working in partnership
"We are delighted to work in partnership with Ambitious about Autism and welcome their learners into our classes and our college environment. By working together we are able to provide young people with autism a highly inclusive programme which allows them to achieve and progress. This is an important partnership for West Thames, bringing real benefits to learners, staff and more broadly to our two organisations." Tracy Aust, Principal at West Thames College
"Our partnership with Ambitious College is not just about sharing a campus, it's about sharing good practice in supporting students with autism and it's about learning from each other. The most exciting aspect is the opportunity we've got to break down barriers and get young people into rewarding and fulfilling work." Andy Forbes, Principal at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London.
"I have never known my son to be so motivated, stimulated and happy at his education placement!" Parent
"Our boys are supported very well by Ambitious College at mainstream courses within West Thames so only access Ambitious College itself on a part time basis. The staff do a great job and have made a bespoke timetable for our sons. They also ask us what we think the boys need to learn and practice so great involvement with the family's ideas too." Parent
"Still early days but can see steady progress towards real expectations of employability; previous schools have not considered real employment opportunities for my son. Ambitious College is truly aiming high." Parent
"To be honest, I don't think there's anywhere else for my son where he would be so well looked after with such determination and energy for improvement along with a huge emphasis on fun and a keen eye to the lives of parents/carers and how they can also be improved." Parent
"The boys have matured hugely in the year they have been at college. Their social interaction has improved, their confidence is so much better and academically they have more than achieved what we hoped for." Parent
