By 2021 it is expected that there will be over 1,000 children and young people needing spaces at schools with special educational support across Kingston and Richmond.
We want to meet this need and enter the competition to run a high-quality, evidence based, autism-specific school in Kingston.
The local authority in Kingston is proposing a school for up to 90 pupils aged 4-19 from Kingston and Richmond. Under the proposal, the new school will be located on the old site of Moor Lane Junior School (postcode KT9 2AA) and will cater specifically for children and young people with autism.
Ambitious about Autism Schools Trust develops schools that are inspirational and transformational, with a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum in an environment of high expectations and close individual focus. We are committed to providing an educational environment that will support the specific needs of children and young people with autism. Our educational philosophy, the Ambitious Approach, is underpinned by a School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework. With that as our guiding principle, we pursue two goals of equal importance for our pupils:
- excellence in academic and social progress
- an improved quality of life.
We currently work with local authorities and local groups who share our commitment to developing schools for children and young people with autism. Parents, carers and community groups are viewed as partners and have an integral role within our school, so we want to hear from you.
We invite interested parties from Kingston and Richmond to our engagement workshop on Thursday 18 July 2019. We want to hear how we can tailor our bid to reflect the views and needs of those in the community whom an autism-specific school would affect; parents, carers, potential feeder schools, community groups and young people with autism.
By attending you’ll learn about our Ambitious about Autism Schools Trust, hear about our current and inspirational provision at The Rise School, and discuss the type of curriculum you feel would best meet the needs of those with autism in the local area.
We’re very excited about the opportunity to deliver our education services to children and young people in Kingston and we want our bid to be inspired by you. Register your interest for the engagement workshop by emailing Natasha Hawley at email@example.com.
