Hi from Kev

Mon 9 Mar 2009 10:31pm

I'm Kev, hi.

I'm a 39 year old husband and dad to 3 of whom one (my nine year old daughter) is classically/severely/kanners/whatever autistic. I run a fairly popular blog at http://leftbrainrightbrain.co.uk which concentrates mostly on autism science, news and a fair bit of opinion.

I've never found the autism itself to be an issue and am happy that my daughter is who she is. But I struggle constantly with LEA's etc that seem determined to make our lives as difficult and miserable as they can Wink

    Hi Kev,

Welcome to the boards.  I don't uite know what the LEA is, but I can assure you, there's always something/somebody to put sticks in our wheels and make our life more miserable.  My son cannot get all the services he should have, because there's a lack of budget for it... but he's entitled to it.. go figure.

    Hi Kev,

I'm mum to two boys with ASD, and understand where you're coming from my battle with education has centred around getting a lap-top for my eldest (High Functioning) to use, can't have one because he doesn't have a statement, can't get a statement because he's doing ok educationally etc.  But my major, major battle at the moment is with the local authority over respite.  It's like banging your head against a brick wall isn't it?

Look forward to chatting with you

    Hi Kev and welcome Smile

I'm just embarking on the statementing process, so I guess I'll find out all about how good the LEA are over the next few months!!
