I am new to the forum so thought I should introduce myself properly. My son is nearly 2 years old, and we are just beginning the long road to get him diagnosed as we believe he is autistic. He has a "significant" speech and language delay (we had him assessed privately as the waiting list for NHS speech therapist was 13 weeks), and has lots of autistic traits such as obsession with wheels, not knowing what to do with toys (or using them as if they were cars), repetitive behaviours such as having to go up and down escalators repeatedly and having a serious meltdown if we stop him, and what I believe to be stimming behaviours (spinning, walking backwards, walking on tiptoes etc). He also has some sensory issues - his hearing is ultra sensitive and although he won't respond to his name or loud noises, he can hear a plane or bus coming way before I hear it, and has to stop what he is doing to look for it. He is a lovely little boy, and now we think we have figured out what is going on with him, we have started working with him to improve his communication (he attends speech therapy once a week), and with any other behaviours we can help with so he isn't so anxious all the time. We love him, and a diagnosis won't change anything apart from allowing us to access some help for him. In the meantime, I'm hoping this forum might be helpful for any challenges he throws our way! Sorry for rambling, and I look forward to chatting with you all.
