I'm Chief Editor of a book that will be called "A Spectrum of Approaches: Music Therapy and Autism Across the Lifespan." I'd really like the help of people on the spectrum and their families/carers to write my chapter. This will focus on seeing autism in cultural terms, not just a medical disorder. I'd like to know if people see themselves as part of a wider autistic culture with it's own forms of music and other arts forms, or whether they want to part of mainstream culture. I'm aiming to celebrate difference, while acknowledging that life can be very difficult for people on the spectrum and those around them.
