Illegal school exclusions - has your child been affected?

Fri 19 Jan 2018 10:46am

Hi all,

I'm Cat - I'm media manager for Ambitious about Autism. Thank you for reading my first post!

As we continue to campaign for change to make sure children and young people with autism get a better deal at school, we're planning on releasing a news story in the next few months about the problem of illegal school exclusions. These are incidents where children with autism are sent home from school early without a formal letter - or kept apart from their peers and taught in a separate, isolated environment, often for weeks on end.

This issue continues to affect thousands of children with autism and their families and we want to make sure schools that break the rules are held to account.

To keep up the pressure on government and decision-makers we're planning to release a news story in the next few months showing the scale of the problem across England. To do this we really need personal stories to show the media the impact these illegal exclusions are having. If you've been affected, or know someone who has and would feel comfortable sharing your story with the media- we'd love to hear from you.

If you're interested in finding out more, please email me at cferris@ambitiousaboutautism.org.uk or give me a call on 0208 815 5134.

Thanks in advance for your time,

Cat
