Hi from Scotmum (and hello to Carole Rutherford)

Sat 14 Mar 2009 5:10pm

Just thought I'd start my own hello Thread (and wanted to say hi to Carole!).

I have two boys with Aspergers (one with ADHD, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia as well).  One boy is in mainstream and one is in a specialist, residential school.

I've been through the Statementing/Appeal/SENDIST malarcky, so might be able to offer a little advice to others.

Hi from Jo!

Sat 14 Mar 2009 8:08am

Hello everyone,

Im jo, mum to Alice (15) and Fabian (Fab).

Fab is  3 years old, and despite having been assessed, and us having been

referred (and almost finished) the Earlybird course, he is without a diagnosis.

This is because he is a happy, and to a certain degree, quite willing (if not

very able) to engage with others for a limited time. The consultant says that we must wait until he

is 6 years old before he will have developed sufficient language to be properly

tested, but for the meantime will say he has 'autistic traits'.

Hi everyone, I'm Crofty (Tracy), I'm a part-time greeting card designer and mum to two boys on the autistic spectrum. My 7yr old Zak has Aspergers and my 5yr old Kai has severe autism and additional complex care needs.

I've join basically to expand my support network, meet new people in similar situations and continually grow in any knowledge I receive.

I would particularly like to chat to people who have children with more complex care needs and also in particular any sensory issues.

Hi from Sarah

Hi my name is Sarah.

My older brother has Asperger's Syndrome and growing up with him inspired me to work with people with autism. I now work for the National Autistic Society as a support worker. I also study politics at LSE and have a dream of being 'big' in politics some day.

I'm 21 and at a stage where I need to make decisions about what I want to do with my life. My ultimate dream is to have a job where I can big changes in this country for people with ASD and their families/carers...just not worked out exactly how to do that yet!!!

Hiya Smile

Thanks to Paula for the link!

My brother has an autistic spectrum disorder, we know he has aspergers traits but have never chased an official diagnosis.

He's 17 now and has progressed so far he will be starting mainstream college in September(my mum was told he wouldn't be able to do anything when he was born).

Hi from Carole

I am late with my intro so many apologies for that. I am Carole Mum to three sons, two of them have a diagnosis of ASD. The eldest has failed rock start syndrome! I have a diverse sense of humour which keeps me going. My second son is now 21 years old and has AS. My youngest son is now 12 years old and has HFA. In 2000 I co-founded a group called Autism-in-Mind (AIM) which is a national campaign and support group manned solely by volunteers. and I am an ardent campaigner.

I'm Georgina and I live in Suffolk i have 2 kids, my youngest (aged 10) has Autism and learning disabilities he is lovely but full of inventive ways to keep me busy! my oldest is a girl age 14 who has no problems- apart from being 14.

Our son goes to a local special school  which on the whole we like and he seems to be happy there. We spend a lot of time outdoors running off energy- swimming in the sea, walking the dog, bouncing on a trampoline,

look forward to sharing ideas with other parents
