Speech and Language Therapy

Thu 12 Mar 2015 8:48pm

Hello everyone!

I wander if you could share your experiences with private help for your kids. I'm thinking of paying someone to improve my 4 years old autistic twins very limited speech. They don't get any extra support at nursery and I'm desperate to do something. But I worry that it might be a waist of money.

Thank you

distressed 4 year old with ASD

Wed 11 Mar 2015 10:39pm

Hi. I have a 4 year old little girl with autism. She has no speech at All. Tonight She has screamed for 2 hours and we have no idea how to make her feel happier. She becomes attached to objects and when she loses one she becomes very distressed and pulls me around because she wants me to find it for her. Only problem is I have no idea what I'm supposed to be trying to find for her as she can't tell me. This is what's just happened tonight. any body else ever experience this with their child. What do you do to help them?

Autism and Co-existing Conditions

Tue 10 Mar 2015 4:28pm

I am new to this forum but hopefully I will find some advice and support and be able to offer that in return.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone whose child (I have a 16 year old son) has been diagnosed in their mid-teenage years with Asperger’s/ASD and who has dropped out of education and/or may have a co-exiting condition.   For example ADHD, depression or any kind of obsession/compulsive behaviour.

need a little help

Tue 10 Mar 2015 12:05pm

I am a mother of 3 boys , my youngest son will be 12 at the end of March . He was diagnosed Autistic in 2012. We knew there was some thing different with him having 2 older children but just couldn't put our finget on it and i had never heard of Autism so everything he did i thought he'd out grow as he got older but it just got worse . After diagnosis he went to a speical primary school where he settled really well but because we got a late diagnosis it ment he was only at that school for 2 years before he had to move to a secoundry school in September 2014 .

Looking for advice

Sun 8 Mar 2015 10:21pm

Hi I am mum to a 7 year old boy who has been struggling at school for 1 1/2 years. Following a year where he was made miserable  due to an inexperienced teacher making him feel like a bad boy and me fighting with the school, an educational psychologist was suggested and on assessment she advised he may be on the autistic spectrum. I guess we weren't too surprised, but still isn't nice to be confronted. We so far have not opted to have him formally assessed.

Hello i am currently in the process of getting my son who is almost 5 years old diagnosed.

Just wanted to say hello as i have been advised that this is going to be a very long process in the area that welive in, which i well believe as we have been waiting since December for a referral to the Community Paediatrician to see if we can get him assessed.

i have been assessed for autism and have been told that i have a touch of aspergers, and i was told that it is a form of epilepsy (which i have had all my life)

it is just in the air at the minute if i have autism (but aspergers is there)

because i am 46 it was not heard of in the 70's so has come of a shock about it

at my assessment it was said that people with autism can develop depression in later life (which i was diagnosed with last year

because i am new to this i would like to know more about adults with aspergers/autism

Hi All

Fri 6 Mar 2015 1:30pm

I'm a mother of 5 (and an extra 3 stepsons) four girls and one boy.  My middle girl was diagnosed ASD last May, after a long battle with the Pediatrician who had decided she "just had a low IQ".  He eventually had to concede when every other professional he demanded she saw (Ed Psych, Speech & Language, Neuro Psychologist, and more) all said, bar none, that they believed she was ASD.

Hello everyone,

I am the mum of an amazing 2 years and 4 month old boy, who has been diagnosed with autism on 20th of February this year.  Even if my instinct told me it can be true I still felt that all my life is falling apart when I got he news. He is not talking, but he is a very loving and happy baby and we have a great relatioship. I am now trying to get the best therapy for him and heard about ABA VB, was wondering if anyone can tell me if it a good therapy as its really expensive and also if there is any founding available for this.
