Ambitious about Autism is the national charity for children and young people with autism and was established in 1997 by a group of families of children with autism concerned at the lack of appropriate provision for their children. They set out to establish a school that would support their children to learn, thrive and achieve positive outcomes. Following a major capital fundraising campaign and a series of temporary locations and premises, the school and the charity moved into purpose-built accommodation in 2008, together creating the Pears National Centre for Autism Education. Since then the charity has grown its education services, opening both Ambitious College and The Rise School (through its multi-academy trust) in 2014, and extended its national influencing and enabling activities.
Focused on developing innovative service models that demonstrate excellent outcomes for young people and which are replicable and sustainable, we are committed to creating pathways to enable young people to live a fulfilling life as part of their community. Children and young people with autism are at the centre of all that we do. Supporting nearly 200 children and young people and thousands more through our influencing and enabling work our mission is to make the ordinary possible and improve their life chances.
This is an exciting time for Ambitious about Autism as we launch a new strategy to increase our reach and impact. As well as growing our direct services for children and young people we aim to increase our impact with schools, employers and the community through our enabling and influencing programmes. We are dependent on voluntary income to achieve this, and are now recruiting for a new Director of Fundraising to lead our fundraising function and to contribute as an active part of our executive leadership team.
As our Director of Fundraising you will join a newly configured senior team to support the delivery and development of our ambitious strategy. You will lead and develop our fundraising strategy and team, and help to develop our highest level partnerships to achieve even greater impact and develop our fundraising to new heights. The majority of our income comes from high value voluntary sources of major donor, corporate, trust and events, so our Director of Fundraising will need to have experience in these areas. We have a number of long-standing, established, high profile partnerships and events and the role will require the Director to nurture and develop these, as well as building on this success by broadening these fundraising partnerships and activities.
Coming from a background in the charity sector, you will need to be very passionate about helping to make the ordinary possible for children and young people with autism. The role itself will involve engaging with multiple stakeholders, so we are looking for a highly able ambassador, attuned to the sensitivities of high value relationships. You will have the personal skills and gravitas to steward and influence senior stakeholders both internally and externally of the charity, as well as passion for the mentoring and development of staff. Bringing energy and enthusiasm, you will be incredibly organised, commercial in your approach and thrive in a fast paced, hugely important role.
