Understanding autism in the workplace

This in depth three-hour training is for employers/professional individuals wanting to improve their understanding of autism and identify how to effectively support autistic colleagues/line reports within the workplace. The session will provide an introduction to autism, including how it presents itself differently in individuals and how autistic people experience the world around them.
 

Training objectives

  • Explore the concept of neurodiversity and how this relates to autistic individuals
  • Explain how communication skills, social interaction, routine and sensory processing impact on autistic individuals’ lives and working environment
  • Raise awareness of co-occurring conditions and explore the concept of intersectionality
  • Understand the challenges autistic individuals may experience within the workplace
  • Identify workplace adjustments that would create a more positive employment experience for autistic individuals
  • Discuss the talents and skill sets autistic individuals can bring into the working environment
  • Discuss practical tips and changes you can utilise within your day-to-day work practices to support autistic colleagues.

Adjustments webinar

When: Tuesday 24 June, 12-12.30pm

This 30-minute session will give you a brief introduction to what reasonable adjustments are and what that could look like for autistic people in the workplace - recruitment, onboarding and in work. This session is aimed at employers looking to understand more about reasonable adjustments for autistic people in the workplace. There will be opportunity for Q and A.
