School transport

School transport

Many children with autism can't travel independently to and from school, either due to school being far away, or because they face greater difficulties using public transport or walking independently.

If this is the case then local authorities must make free travel arrangements for these children. Policies may vary depending to your local authority.

You can find your local authority's relevant transport page by entering your postcode on the GOV.UK website.
