Why Employ Autism?
It all came from our Youth Council! They raised the issue of employability and employment opportunities at one of their Youth Council meetings last year and we decided to take it further together.
Meet our Youth Council here.
So what’s happened so far?
Since then the Youth Council have…
1. Hosted a roundtable event at Parliament where they decided on some core campaign aims.
The roundtable was well attended by MPs including John Bercow MP, House of Commons Speaker; Caroline Nokes MP, Education Committee Member, Lord Tim Clement-Jones (President of Ambitious about Autism) and Justin Tomlinson MP, Minister for Disabled People.
Take a look at the Youth Council write up of the roundtable here.
2. Hosted an Employ Autism event with Santander at their offices in central London.
The event was attended by young people with autism and employers such as the National Careers Service, the NHS, and Comic Relief. Employers took part in Autism Awareness Training and young people attended seminars on interview skills, coping with stress and anxiety, interacting in the workplace and independence.
