Ch4's 'Are You Autistic' prog., AaA Youth Council and Prof.Baron-Cohen

Tue 10 Apr 2018 4:30pm

Hi, I'm a new member.  I had just written a paper called 'Sex, Gender, Class and STEM-subjects vs. Humanities in Constructions of Autism', when I saw the programme 'Are You Autistic?' on Channel 4.  My paper was concerned with the 'New Classic Autism' stereotype that James McGrath had referred to in his book: 'Naming Adult Autism' (2017) and very much involved Prof.

I have an idea

Tue 30 Jan 2018 1:57pm

Hello everyone,

My son is 14 yo and on the autism spectrum, with speech delay.

Because of his limited communication skills, he finds it difficult to make friends, even if he loves people and is very sociable.

It is extremely difficult to make friends, and I know that he would love to meet and play with other children around his age. If there are patents who experience the same dilemma, please get in touch. If there are people who can give advice on the matter, it will bw much appreciated.

Illegal school exclusions - has your child been affected?

Fri 19 Jan 2018 10:46am

Hi all,

I'm Cat - I'm media manager for Ambitious about Autism. Thank you for reading my first post!

As we continue to campaign for change to make sure children and young people with autism get a better deal at school, we're planning on releasing a news story in the next few months about the problem of illegal school exclusions. These are incidents where children with autism are sent home from school early without a formal letter - or kept apart from their peers and taught in a separate, isolated environment, often for weeks on end.

Hi my name is Jennifer and I have started a campaign to prevent local authorities from abusing their powers. My son Yakeem was informally excluded in 2012/13 by Whitefield Academy in Waltham Forest. A background to my story can be found here:

What organisations are there within London that can help practically or with other forms of support. Guidelines and practical tips that would be useful for the home environment.
